Keratoconus is a corneal disease that can be treated with eyeglasses, contact lenses, corneal cross-linking, or a cornea transplant. The treatment depends on the severity of the disease and the patient's age.
Eyeglasses : Can correct blurry or distorted vision
Soft contact lenses : Can correct blurry or distorted vision
Corneal collagen cross-linking : A one-time procedure that uses ultraviolet light and a vitamin B solution to strengthen the cornea
Rigid, gas permeable contact lenses : Can be used to correct vision when eyeglasses are no longer effective
Scleral lenses : Can be used to correct vision when other types of lenses are no longer effective
Corneal transplant : Can be used when contact lenses are no longer effective
Bowman layer transplantation : Can be used to flatten and strengthen the cornea
Other treatments Refractive surgery and Intrastromal stem cell transplantation.
