Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a complication of diabetes that can damage the kidneys and lead to chronic kidney disease (CKD). It can also lead to kidney failure, also known as end-stage renal disease (ESRD).


Causes

High blood sugar : High blood sugar, or blood glucose, can damage the blood vessels in the kidneys.

High blood pressure : High blood pressure can damage the kidneys and make kidney damage worse.
